starburst Department of Physics - Cryogenics Facility

Part of the helium liquefier
The Cryogenics Facility is one element of the technical support team serving the Department of Physics and other academic departments and faculties across the University of Bristol. It is an integral part of the Correlated Electron Systems research group. It provides help and information on all issues related to liquid cryogens along with supplying liquid helium and nitrogen to departments and research groups.

The Cryogenics Facility is managed by Bob Wiltshire. Bob handles all the day-to-day operations of safety, production of liquid helium, supplies of liquid nitrogen and the running of the helium liquefier. Bob can also be contacted for information on purchasing consumables used in cryogenics or vacuum systems, or any design or material issues.

The academic with overall responsibility for cryogenics is Professor Tony Carrington.

Safety is a key issue in the management of cryogenics. Please read our safety booklet .
