Information for New Postgraduate Students

New intake 2011 - Most PhD students will be expected to demonstrate in undergraduate teaching laboratories or take on other teaching duties as part of your training, this is work for which you will be paid, in order to allocation you to suitable teaching duties you will need to contact your supervisor and consult with him/her to agree on completing the form to fit in with any needs that your supervisor/group has or might have for you. The Teaching and Demonstrating form is in rich text format and pdf version. If your funding sponsor will not allow you to take on teaching/demonstrating duties please let us know. Send completed form to Briony Maitland.

You will also need to book yourself a place on the Teaching and Learning in Higher Education training - this is a 2 day course and is mandatory for anyone involved in teaching. Please note that there are now Science Specific courses so you should ensure that you book these.

Teaching and Learning in Higher Education Courses

All new students should receive a pack from the Science Faculty Office telling you when and where the formal registration process is to take place. These packs are sent out in August/September - if you do not receive a pack - please see the University web pages for new students at http://www.bristol.ac.uk/newstudents/ as much of the information is listed here with downloads of the various documents you may need to download, complete and bring with you.

Physics students on registration (or shortly after if you are arriving at a date other than usual) will collect a welcome pack which we put together which contains the Postgraduate Student Handbook along with some other useful information.
