We are happy to consider applications for both PhD and for self-funded MSc by Research applicants all year round. The Theoretical Physics Group will hold interviews for EPSRC funded studentships early in 2012. If you would like more information please contact James Annett. For more information on the format and how to get here please go to our Open Day web page.
Research leading to the degree of PhD or an MSc by Research at the University of Bristol may be undertaken under the direction of an academic within the group - please follow links to individual members and their research.
PhD students carry out independent research over three years with a 4th year to allow the writing up of a thesis and the degree is awarded on the basis of a successful examination of your thesis. An MSc by Research student will undertakes a year of research under the direction of a an academic within the group. See group members to see a full list of possible supervisors and
their research areas.
For a list of some specific projects please see possible Postgraduate Projects this list is not a complete list of all possible projects as many projects are inspired by the requests of the applicants so if you have an idea for a research project/topic please apply and your application and research interests will be considered.
We welcome enquiries from all suitably qualified students.
A small number of studentships funded by EPSRC and the University are usually available for home and EU students. First class overseas applicants can be considered for a University Overseas Scholarship - but these are highly competitive and awarded only to top quality candidates.
Informal discussions about research topics in the Group can usually be conducted by email to the appropriate staff members.
A visit to Bristol to find out more about the Group may also be useful, if you are not able to attend our open day and this can be arranged when we have received your application online.
Further information and a link to our online admissions system can be found on the
Postgraduate Admissions page.
