Here are a few snippets which illustrate Johnís tremendous energy:

John Enderby was Professor of Physics in Bristol from 1976 to 1996. He was the H.O. Wills Professor of Physics and Head of Department from 1981 to 1994, spending the period 1965-1988 as Deputy-Adjoint of the Institut Laue-Langevin in Grenoble, the European neutron beam facility. John was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1985 for his pioneering studies of the structure and properties of liquids and amorphous materials.

Since retiring from his chair John has served as:

i) Editor, Proceedings of Royal Society A
ii) Member of Council of PPARC and Chairman of Education and Training Panel
iii) Editor in Chief, Journal of Condensed Matter
iv) Chairman of RAE 2001 Physics Panel for UK Universities
v) Physical Secretary and Vice President of Royal Society 1999-2004
vi) President of the Institute of Physics from October 2004
vii) Chairman of Melys Diagnostics Ltd, a company developing non-invasive methods of measuring glucose levels in humans.

Johnís contributions have been recognised by the award of a CBE in 1997 and a Knighthood for services to Science and Technology in 2004.
