Lecture

The School of Physics offers a wide range of single and joint honours BSc (Bachelor of Science) and MSci (Master in Science) programmes. Admission for most of these programmes is handled through the School of Physics, Chemical Physics programmes however are handled by the School of Chemistry. All our programmes have full accreditation from the Institute of Physics. If you would like further information on the accreditation process please see the Institute of Physics Website. If you are unsure which of our programmes you would like to take, please contact us at physics-admissions@bristol.ac.uk.

If you would like a School of Physics booklet and information about any of our courses, please use our online booklet request form.

Physics

We offer two honours degree programmes in Physics: a four year programme (F303) leading to the degree of MSci and a three year programme (F300) leading to the degree of BSc. These are our most flexible and most popular programmes and offer an excellent Physics experience.

Physics with Astrophysics

Our MSci and BSc honours degree programmes in Physics with Astrophysics are particularly suited to people with a keen interest in Astronomy and Astrophysics. This is one of the most dynamic research areas in the School.

Physics and Philosophy

Historically, physics and philosophy were closely related, and in these joint honours programmes you will be able to explore these connections, as a bridge between science and the arts. Bristol is arguably the leading UK centre for the Philosophy of Physics and of Quantum Mechanics.

Mathematics and Physics

The MSci joint honours degree programme in Mathematics and Physics is particularly suited to students who have a strong interest in theoretical physics or applied mathematics. On this programme you will have the opportunity to study in two of the country's leading science Schools.

Programmes with Industrial Experience

Two four year programmes leading to the degree of MSci are offered. Both these programmes provide you with a tremendous opportunity to gain experience working as a physicist in an industrial setting as part of your undergraduate degree.

Physics with Study in Continental Europe

This four year programme leads to the degree of MSci and provides you with the unique opportunity to gain experience of living and studying in another European country such as France, Germany, Italy or Spain.

Chemical Physics

In conjunction with the School of Chemistry we offer two honours degree programmes in Chemical Physics: a four year programme (F322) leading to the degree of MSci and a three year programme (F320) leading to the degree of BSc. Applications to both these programmes are processed by the School of Chemistry.

Physics with a Preliminary Year of Study

A four year programme primarily intended for students who are not qualified to enter our honours programmes directly. Please note however that unlike some Foundation Year courses offered by other universities and colleges this programme is not for students who wish to improve grades already achieved in either maths or physics, or both.
