starburstWhat is Physics like at Bristol?

Lab Partners

Studying Physics at Bristol is exciting and challenging. From being part of a small group or class studying at school or college, you will find yourself part of a much larger year group. This is great fun, but can take some getting used to.

We teach in a number of different ways, and in different group sizes, to complement the lectures where the whole class is together. In the 1st year practical lab, you will have a lab partner, and you and your partner together with 3 other pairs will make up a lab group of 8 with your own demonstrator, who will guide you through the experiments and give practical advice. You will also be in a tutorial group with 3 or 4 others on the same degree programme as you - this is a forum for problem solving, discussion, and chat.

A typical week will include a mixture of lectures, lab experiments, and tutorials (in all your first year subjects), some self-directed learning, occasional project-type work, and some computing.
